"Friends On Line" is the second segment of the seventeenth episode of the second season of Kiff. It is the ninety-eighth segment overall.
Synopsis
Kiff, Barry, and Terri go to the Table Town Mall, but get caught up in a long line.
Plot
Kiff and Barry accompany Terri to the Table Town Mall. At the mall, the three pass by a line of people outside the Edges bookstore. Rob Sadly, one of the queuers, explains that they are lining up to buy Jan Mice's highly-anticipated new novel The Tightrope Walker's Wife when it goes on sale at midnight. Terri, claiming not to have known about the book's release, says that she, Kiff, and Barry should just go on with their day, despite Barry knowing that Jan Mice is Terri's favorite author. Kiff and Barry offer to queue up with Terri, as they can still hang out together while in line. Shortly afterwards, Terri leaves the line, saying that she needs to use the restroom.
As the line grows longer, Kiff and Barry start to notice that Terri has been gone for an unusually long time. They wonder if the mall's restrooms might be closed, but Rob confirms otherwise, as he has an app on his phone that provides bathroom maintenance updates. After Barry sends a concerned text to Terri, who is actually eating in the food court, she meets back up with him and Kiff, only to immediately leave for another supposed restroom break. Rob then informs the duo that Terri is using them and shows them Terri's most recent KlipKlop post, where she mentions making her "assistants" queue up for her while she goes around the mall.
Having previously given Terri the benefit of the doubt, Kiff and Barry are hurt by Terri's deception. Pawva, who is queuing behind them, cheers them up and reveals that she was also tricked into lining up by her older sister, who then went off to go shopping. Another queuer relates a similar story, and Kiff soon finds out that everybody in the queue was tricked into lining up by their respective older siblings. Together, they perform a song about the struggles of being a younger sibling.
When Terri rejoins the queue and once again tries to quickly leave, Kiff and Barry call her out for manipulating them. With her scheme exposed, Terri apologizes for her behavior and offers to wait in line by herself, but Kiff and Barry stay with her, saying that they just want to hang out with her. However, Terri soon has to legitimately leave for her shift at Darryl H. Pizza in the food court, and the duo are left by themselves once again.
Having also related to the song from earlier, the sales clerk at Edges decides to put The Tightrope Walker's Wife on sale immediately, freeing the queuers from having to wait until midnight. Kiff visits Terri at Darryl H. Pizza to ask her which cover variation of the book she prefers. Terri asks Kiff to man her shift while she visits Edges to select her preferred cover, then sends Barry over as well to assist Kiff. The duo are immediately tricked into handing over the cash register to a robber posing as a "cash register inspector", with Terri returning too late to stop the theft. The three are all fired by the store's manager, but everyone from Edges then stops by to order pizzas in solidarity with Kiff and Barry, giving the store its best-ever sales in a single shift and saving Terri's job. In gratitude, Terri treats Kiff and Barry to a pizza dinner of their own, during which she reads them The Tightrope Walker's Wife.
