I've nevah actually given anyone a knuckle sandwich. This is more of a knuckle cannoli.
Mav, "Life on the Inside"
Mav is a minor character in the series Kiff. He is a resident of Table Town and a student at Table Town Middle School.
Profile
Mav is a student at Table Town Middle School. He is one of the school's regular detention attendees, alongside Amira, Gareth, L.E., and Rosso.[1]
Mav debuts in "Life on the Inside" and narrates the title card's episode sponsor. When Kiff and Barry arrive in detention under Sweepy Steve's supervision, Mav is at the back of the room. Once seated, he asks what they did to get in, first explaining Gareth's offense before some of the other regulars share theirs. Kiff rants that they should all be in class, annoying Mav. He warns he gives "knuckle sandwiches" to kids who do not answer his questions, then asks again. After Kiff reveals she was sent for standing up from her seat, Mav has her demonstrate, astonishing the other detainees. While she is up, he steals her seat and relaxes. Kiff then proposes escaping to Barry. Mav dismissively says he and the other regulars have tried many times without success. After Kiff criticizes their past plans, Mav challenges her to come up with a better one. Kiff devises a plan involving waiting for Sweepy Steve to fall asleep in sunlight, making macramé decoys, and escaping through the door. Sweepy Steve becomes suspicious and guards it, but Kiff reflects light off the trash can and puts him back to sleep. As she celebrates, Mav points out Sweepy Steve is still blocking the door. Kiff suggests the vent; Mav notes they lack a ladder. Kiff improvises by stacking everyone to reach it, briefly earning his approval. The group becomes stuck in the vent, prompting Mav's disapproval again. With Kiff's instruction, Rosso's burp launches them into the AV room. Mav thanks Kiff and Barry and says they will begin thinking about their futures. Later, Principal Secretary praises Kiff for rehabilitating his "baddest of apples", and Mav is shown giving a classroom presentation on vents.
In "Kiff Is Good at Sports", Mav is a member of the school track and field team. Along with his teammates, he is impressed by Kiff's discus skills when she and Barry join the team and celebrates her successes. During a major meet against Tuft Pierre, Mav is the first competitor to represent the school, participating in the javelin throw. Although he performs confidently, he is ultimately outmatched by the visiting team's poodle. When the poodle smugly tells him that he needs more practice, Mav frowns and responds with a threatening gesture. Later, after Kiff unexpectedly returns and secures victory for the team, Mav and the others attempt to lift her up in celebration as they had done before, only for Kiff to refuse.
In "Taily", Mav is among the students entertained by Kiff's ventriloquist act with her tail during a school assembly. He later attends the class presidential debate and is unimpressed by Kiff's performance until she brings back "Taily". He is later seen voting in the election, presumably in Taily's favor.
In "The Tower on Trevor", Mav joins his classmates in adding objects to the tower built on Trevor's body. He is the first student shown leaving Miss Deer Teacher's classroom after she goes to find more students to add to the tower. He remarks on the experience with genuine but monotone praise.
Appearance
Mav is a short male sheep with a slouched posture and an hourglass figure. His voluminous wool is an ice-white cerulean, while his bare face is a steel-blue cerulean. He has a midsize snout with a cobalt-blue nose, two prominent front teeth, and a double-lobed lower lip. His small, drooping ears are tapered, and his round, heavy-lidded eyes often give him an aloof expression. His hands are cloven hooves, while his rounded feet are similarly hoof-like. Unlike most sheep, he has a long tail, suggesting it is undocked.
Mav wears a fitted black leather jacket adorned with metal studs along the collar and cuffs. The jacket fastens with a single metal button and has zippered pockets.
Personality
Mav with his friends.
Mav is mischievous, confident, and theatrically self-assured, often positioning himself as the dominant presence in any room. He enjoys projecting a tough, rebellious persona reinforced by his leather-jacket aesthetic and habit of issuing mock threats, such as promising "knuckle sandwiches" to anyone who annoys him. Despite this bravado, his behavior is generally playful intimidation rather than genuine malice.
He is quick to judge others' competence, especially concerning plans he considers beneath his standards. He takes pride in his experience and informs newcomers that detention is inescapable, typically in a smug or knowing tone. He reacts defensively when his past failures are criticized, rallying the group to crack their knuckles in unison as a show of unity and pressure.
Although he initially dismisses Kiff's ideas, Mav is not closed-minded; he becomes impressed when she shows creativity and initiative, such as stacking the group to reach the vent. His respect is earned through ingenuity and boldness rather than obedience. Once convinced, he participates fully in group efforts, including crafting decoys and attempting new escape strategies.
Beneath his tough exterior, Mav shows a capacity for growth and reflection. After the group's successful escape, he expresses genuine gratitude toward Kiff and Barry and resolves to start thinking about his future. This shift suggests his rebellious persona masks a desire for direction and self-improvement. His later presentation on vents indicates he channels his experiences into something constructive, showing he is capable of learning, adapting, and embracing responsibility when given the right push.
Mav speaks with a distinctive cadence reminiscent of Christopher Walken's, marked by unexpected pauses, unusual rhythmic breaks, and emphatic stress on seemingly random words. This speech style carries a faint New York inflection.
